What is a digital human?

A digital human is an AI you talk to face to face. It hears what you say, answers in its own voice and reacts with a lifelike face, live, the way a person would on a video call.

Make your own

The call connects you to Sophie, Lookalike’s own digital human.

How it works

Four models, one conversation.

Every reply runs through the same loop, fast enough that it feels like talking to someone.

It hears you

Speech recognition turns what you say into text as you talk, and notices when you have finished.

It thinks

A language model writes the reply from the persona it was given and the documents or website it was taught.

It speaks

A voice model reads the reply aloud in its own voice, which can be a stock voice or a clone of a real one.

It shows a face

A video model animates a face from a single photo, matching lips and expressions to the voice, and streams it as live video.

Not the same thing

Digital human, avatar, chatbot, deepfake.

Digital human

Talks with you live: it listens, answers and reacts with a face and voice. Each conversation is new.

AI avatar video

A presenter reads a script you wrote and the result is rendered as a video file. You watch it; it cannot hear you.

Chatbot

Answers in text, sometimes with a voice. No face, so it misses the cues people read on a video call.

Deepfake

Puts someone's face or voice on content without their consent, usually to deceive. A digital human says it is an AI.

What they are used for

Anywhere a conversation matters.

Teams use digital humans where a face helps people trust the answer, or where practice needs someone to push back.

People also make digital humans of themselves, as an AI clone others can call, and of the people they love, as an interactive memorial that keeps their face, voice and stories.

Make one

From one photo, in about a minute.

Add a face

Upload one photo, or pick a starter face. No studio footage needed.

Give it a voice

Choose a voice, or clone one from a short recording.

Describe the persona

Say who it is, how it talks and what it should and should not do.

Teach it

Add PDFs, documents, spreadsheets, images or a website for it to answer from.

Then share its link, put it on your website with one line of code, or build it into your own app with The Digital Human API.

Using them responsibly

Honest by design.

  • It says it is an AI. Every Lookalike page tells visitors they are talking to a digital human, not a person.
  • Real people consent. Making a Lookalike of a real person requires their permission.
  • Likenesses can be taken down. The person shown, or their representative, can ask for removal through the Legal Center.

Questions

Digital humans, answered.

What is a digital human in simple terms?

It is an AI you can talk to the way you would on a video call. It listens, understands, answers out loud in its own voice and reacts with a lifelike face, all in real time.

Is a digital human the same as an AI avatar?

Not quite. Most AI avatar tools turn a script into a finished video. A digital human holds a live, two-way conversation, so what it says depends on what you ask.

Is a digital human a real person?

No. It is software. A responsible digital human tells people it is an AI, and making one of a real person should require that person’s consent.

What do you need to make one?

With Lookalike, one photo. You pick or clone a voice, describe the persona and add knowledge such as PDFs, documents, spreadsheets, images or a website. It is ready to talk in about a minute.

Can a digital human answer questions about my business?

Yes. It answers from the material you give it, such as a handbook, product pages or a price list, and you can put it on your website with one line of code.

How much does a digital human cost?

Lookalike has a free plan with 2 video call minutes a month. Pro is $19 a month with 125 video minutes, and extra video is $0.15 a minute.
